“Man must rise above the Earth — to the top of the atmosphere and beyond — for only thus will he fully understand the world in which he lives”. ~ Socrates Demo sailing in Baywalk, Mati City during the 12th Sambuokan Festival In my younger years, I led a sheltered life. I was afraid of venturing out on my own, of taking risks. At a major turning point in my life, in defiance of betrayal, pain, depression and anger combined, I gathered my wits together and went out of my domesticated box. Stretching my worn out limbs, I started to conquer my fears, one by one. It included fear of rejection, of commitment, failure, and stark fear of heights. I came out a new, daring person –the process was never easy– and I never looked back. Today, I specialize in aerial photography, among other things. One day soon, I shall tell you how I confronted it dramatically. View more photos of Sambuokan Festival here Advertisements
“The most beautiful experience we can have is the mysterious – the fundamental emotion which stands at the cradle of true art and true science.” ― Albert Einstein The setting for this beautiful sunset was in a wonderful resort which is now closed. The 5-star Tanjung Rhu Resort, located at the northernmost tip of Langkawi Island, is spread over 1,100 acres of sprawling rainforest, healthy mangroves, rolling limestone, and a breathtaking private 2.5 km beach that may well be unmatched anywhere else in the islands. This beautiful long coastline of white sand was included in the National Geographic’s list of the World’s Ten Most Beautiful Beaches.
“Every person passing through this life will unknowingly leave something and take something away. Most of this “something” cannot be seen or heard or numbered or scientifically detected or counted. It’s what we leave in the minds of other people and what they leave in ours. Memory. The census doesn’t count it. Nothing counts without it.” ― Robert Fulghum, All I Really Need to Know I Learned in Kindergarten
“Never waste any amount of time doing anything important when there is a sunset outside that you should be sitting under!” ~ C. JoyBell C. The 5-star Tanjung Rhu Resort, located at the northernmost tip of Langkawi Island, is spread over 1,100 acres of sprawling rainforest, healthy mangroves, rolling limestone, and a breathtaking private 2.5 km beach that may well be unmatched anywhere else in the island. Though I stayed in another beautiful resort, I was treated to a sumptuous dinner there, where I had an opportunity to witness a gorgeous sunset at that moment.
“There’s a sunrise and a sunset every single day, and they’re absolutely free. Don’t miss so many of them.” ~ Jo Walton I captured this beautiful sunrise in Little Boracay Resort, Sta. Maria, Davao del Sur. At 5:13 in the morning, its colors are still muted before the golden glow completely comes out. Excerpt from my article “Hidden Wonders of Sta. Maria”: There’s a tempting getaway from stress and urban hub in a matter of two hours or ninety six kilometers south of Davao City. All it takes is a bus or private vehicle for a smooth and scenic ride to a little municipality called Sta. Maria in Davao del Sur. How do you know that you’re there? After a panoramic vista of Malalag Bay over a cliff, you’ll see their municipal building built strategically in front of a hill, with a fountain in the foreground. Be content with what you have, rejoice in the way things are. When you realize there is nothing lacking, the whole world belongs to you. ~Lao Tzu I love the sunrise and sunset. They are calming therapy for me. When I capture a beautiful one, I feel better the whole day. I feel like I own the world. So when I invited two of my childhood friends and Biboy, my photography student, to wake up at 4am for a shoot, I was met with sleepy disbelief by Cecil, whom I have known since seven in grade school. She and Lyn were sleeping for the night at home, in what we called our pajama party.
