Be confident

“Be confident. Too many days are wasted comparing ourselves to others and wishing to be something we aren’t. Everybody has their own strengths and weaknesses, and it is only when you accept everything you are – and aren’t – that you will truly succeed.” ~ Anon

Calm after a storm

“There is a place of perfect peace in each one of us that nothing can harm or disturb. It is waiting for you in this very moment.” ~ Christopher Foster, The Happy Seeker

Get High on Life

“There are no more committed people on the planet than surfers. We fall down a lot. We turn around, paddle back out, and do it over and over again. Unlike anything else in life, the stoke of surfing is so high that the failures quickly fade from memory.” ~ Gary Sirota

Do better the second time

“Do the one thing you think you cannot do. Fail at it. Try again. Do better the second time. The only people who never tumble are those who never mount the high wire. This is your moment. Own it.” ~ Oprah Winfrey For a few of my friends who are afraid to take the risk, failure sets them back because they fear ridicule and falling down on their feet.  For me, failure is not a setback, it’s a constant reminder to do better when another opportunity arises.  It keeps me grounded.  I love to tell my stories of failure in workshops to those who think I sailed smoothly in my field of work… and in my life, for that matter. Embrace your mistakes.  But don’t repeat them.  Once you acknowledge them,  pick up the pieces, and move on. Camiguin Island is a magical spot in the Philippine archipelago. Here, while waiting for a glorious sunset, I tumbled and lost my footing several times while balancing my way to these kids who were playing on the …

Love life!

“If you love life, don’t waste time, for time is what life is made up of.” ~ Bruce Lee Sunset in Tanjung Rhu Resort, Langkawi, Malaysia © Jojie Alcantara I could never get over the sunset in Langkawi.  This particular area is the 5-star Tanjung Rhu Resort, located at the northernmost tip of Langkawi Island. Spread over 1,100 acres of sprawling rainforest, healthy mangroves, and rolling limestone, this breathtaking private 2.5 km beach may well be unmatched anywhere else in the island.  I stayed in another beautiful resort, but we had a beautiful dinner overlooking the beach here, where I had an opportunity to witness a gorgeous sunset at that moment.

Nature’s canvas

“A painter should begin every canvas with a wash of black, because all things in nature are dark except where exposed by the light.” ~ Leonardo da Vinci This sunset can be viewed overlooking the sea where we stayed in Sandbar Lepa Resort in Tawi Tawi.  As it gave its last peek before disappearing from the horizon, we quietly captured it from our cameras, silenced in awe. If I were to relive this moment over and over, I will most likely be staying longer in this island and coming over to this spot each day. Tawi-Tawi is an island province southernmost of the Philippines, located in the Autonomous Region in Muslim Mindanao (ARMM), and sharing sea borders with the Malaysian State of Sabah and the Indonesian East Kalimantan province.  To the northeast lies the province of Sulu and to the west is Sabah in Malaysia, which one can visibly see on a clear day from its highest peak, Bud Bongao.  Tawi-Tawi also covers some islands in the Sulu Sea to the northwest, the Cagayan de Tawi-Tawi …

Never stop being a kid

“Never stop being a kid. Never stop feeling and seeing and being excited with great things like air and engines and sounds of sunlight within you. Wear your little mask if you must to protect you from the world but if you let that kid disappear you are grown up and you are dead.” ~ Richard Bach, ‘Nothing by Chance,’ 1963.
