Man and sea

“The heart of man is very much like the sea, it has its storms, it has its tides and in its depths it has its pearls too.” Vincent Van Gogh This is my childhood beach, back in our ancestral home where we live so close to the sea, we smell of salt and ocean all day long.. © Jojie Alcantara Ferrando Whitesand Beach, San Ignacio Manay, Davao Oriental In photo swimming : Kuya Meric Yumang * * * *

Find your challenge

“Do not stop thinking of life as an adventure. You have no security unless you can live bravely, excitingly, imaginatively; unless you can choose a challenge instead of competence.” ― Eleanor Roosevelt, The Autobiography of Eleanor Roosevelt My self portrait (with tripod and timer one very windy morning) at Times Beach, Matina in Davao City. Note the high tide and angry rush of waves at the distance. ~ Jojie Alcantara, 2012

Nurturing childhood

“Children the world over have a right to a childhood filled with beauty, joy, adventure, and companionship. They will grow toward ecological literacy if the soil they are nurtured in is rich with experience, love, and good examples.” ~ Alan Dyer, “A Sense of Adventure” Captured in Lake Sebu, South Cotabato one early morning in 2007 with a Canon 350D, my very first dslr camera

Live curious

“Let children walk with Nature, let them see the beautiful blendings and communions of death and life, their joyous inseparable unity, as taught in woods and meadows, plains and mountains and streams of our blessed star, and they will learn that death is stingless indeed, and as beautiful as life.” ~ John Muir The quote “Live curious” is one of National Geographic’s catchy slogans and shirt designs. This particular image was shot with an Olympus micro 4/3 camera, my toy lens and its unique features. Read more about my magic lens here.

Hold on to your dream

Amihan Boy, Pangoy in Dahican, Mati, Davao Oriental Hold on to your dream Author unknown There’s a voice that calls to some of us From somewhere deep inside A voice that will not give us peace, Until at least we’ve tried To catch that bright elusive star, Though foolish it may seem To those not driven as we are To hold on to a dream.

The Scene Stealer

I steal scenes. For first time visitors to my blog, photography has been a self-therapy all these years in moments of stress, anxiety or sadness.  It allows me to be calmer, to stay in focus, to compose my thoughts, and to dream. When I take photos, I am lost in my own world. When I go back to reality, everything is more alive and filled with opportunities, compositions waiting to happen. Even with the ups and downs, I get a clearer picture of life. ~ Jojie Alcantara ~My photo taken on Feb 22, 2011 (strolling down White Sand Beach Resort, an ancestral property in San Ignacio, Manay, Davao Oriental).
