Sunrise through dark clouds in Cateel, Davao Oriental © Jojie Alcantara
I’ve seen better days,
but I have also seen worse.
I don’t have everything that I want
but I do have all I need.
I woke up with some aches and pains,
but I woke up.
My life may not be perfect
but I am blessed.

Sometimes we wake up to a gloomy morning and not know how to feel better. Well, a cup of coffee works at times. Other times, nothing much shakes off the blah and your mood matches these dreary days.
As a writer and artist, I go through a quiet, antisocial phase in my life when I don’t want to go out and mingle. It comes regularly like a monthly period, just like my writer’s block. The grumpiness goes along with it too.
Alternately, I crave travel because I can then be alone in a sea of strangers, not being pressured to start up a conversation. I can get lost in my thoughts without the need to explain why. Travel becomes therapy, and it perks me up.
However, there are overcast, rainy mornings that I welcome, such as the moment I captured the sun trying hard to peek through dense, low lying rain clouds. Even if it did not succeed in coming out of the shadows, no rain could dampen its bright shine.
Just a warm reminder to all of us going through some bleak days. Let your dark clouds pass. Sunshine will find its way.
