“Play, while it cannot change the external realities of children’s lives, can be a vehicle for children to explore and enjoy their differences and similarities and to create, even for a brief time, a more just world where everyone is an equal and valued participant”. ~ Patricia G. Ramsey, Contemporary American educational psychologist
“The person who risks nothing, does nothing, has nothing, is nothing, and becomes nothing. He may avoid suffering and sorrow, but he simply cannot learn and feel and change and grow and love and live.” ~ Leo F. Buscaglia (American guru, tireless advocate of the power of love, 1924-1998)
“Up to a point a man’s life is shaped by environment, heredity, and movements and changes in the world about him. Then there comes a time when it lies within his grasp to shape the clay of his life into the sort of thing he wishes to be. Only the weak blame parents, their race, their times, lack of good fortune, or the quirks of fate. Everyone has it within his power to say, “This I am today; that I will be tomorrow.” ~Louis L’Amour
“You can become blind by seeing each day as a similar one. Each day is a different one, each day brings a miracle of its own. It’s just a matter of paying attention to this miracle.” ~ Paulo Coelho (Mystical author, one of Brazil’s most successful novelists) Cloud formation I captured in Baywalk, Times Beach one fine morning Click to view large image
“You have to find something that you love enough to be able to take risks, jump over the hurdles and break through the brick walls that are always going to be placed in front of you. If you don’t have that kind of feeling for what it is you are doing, you’ll stop at the first giant hurdle.” ~George Lucas Captured in Baywalk, Times Beach at sunrise in 2009 this photo was published in Digital Photographer Philippines Magazine Today is 11-11-11 Make that JUMP you’ve been wanting to do for so long. ”Our lives improve only when we take chances – and the first and most difficult risk we can take is to be honest with ourselves.” ~Walter Anderson View more images from my Unseen Iloilo Gallery
Isn’t it so amazing how God can make a creature so small and yet so startlingly beautiful in detail when you take a little more time to look at it closely? ~ Jojie Alcantara View my world of Macropolis Tacurong, Sultan Kudarat, North Cotabato
“Did you know that you have big things to accomplish in life? And did you know that those big things are getting rather dusty while you pour yourself another cup of coffee, and decide to mull things over rather than do them? We were all born with a gift to give in life, one which informs all of our desires, interests, passions and curiosities. This gift is, in fact, our purpose. And you don’t need permission to decide your own purpose. No boss, teacher, parent, priest or other authority can decide this for you. Just find that unique purpose.” ~ Steve Jobs * * * * (Excerpt) 25 Years Ago Today, Steve Jobs Bought Pixar On February 3rd, 1986 Steve Jobs acquired the computer graphics division of Lucasfilm. Jobs, who was forced to resign from Apple, renamed the group “Pixar”. After some years of initial business struggle, the rest is history: Pixar is now the most successful animation studio in the world with masterpieces such as Toy Story, Up and Wall-E in their portfolio. “Creativity is inventing, experimenting, growing, taking risks, breaking rules, making mistakes, and having fun.” ~Mary Lou Cook In my photography workshops, I talk of composition techniques to make your images look better. One is not to place your horizon along the middle of the frame so as not to “split” your image into two. Another is not to place your subject dead center on a photo. The idea is that an off-center composition is more pleasing to the eye and looks more natural (hence, the rule of thirds). Today, I decided to defy the rules and place my horizon and subject dead center. And if it isn’t aesthetically pleasing to anybody, it won’t be my problem at all.
“When the rush comes, you get a rush. Your adrenaline gets pumped up.” Skimboarders during the competition in Dahican Beach, Mati, Davao Oriental
“Those who contemplate the beauty of the earth find reserves of strength that will endure as long as life lasts. There is something infinitely healing in the repeated refrains of nature — the assurance that dawn comes after night, and spring after winter.” ~ Rachel Carson Shot at sunrise with a tripod in Punta Dumalag View more of my sunrise images in the Turtle Sanctuary here
At age 2, I was scribbling on walls, on my Dad’s books, writing or sketching on any paper I can get hold of. I started doodling, creating storybook sketches conjured from an imaginative young mind. I would draw, color, paint. I lived a life of curiosity, reading books at night while my parents propped me up on a stack of pillows during asthma attacks.
“The fishermen know that the sea is dangerous and the storm terrible, but they have never found these dangers sufficient reason for remaining ashore.” ~ Vincent van Gogh Captured this fisherman in the beautiful shoreline of San Luis Beach in Caraga, Davao Oriental This photo was a finalist in a photo competition.
